Seattle Goodwill celebrates its volunteers during National Volunteer Week
Tuesday, Apr 25, 2017
A total of 780 volunteers donated 13,230 hours last year to help serve Goodwill's mission
Without volunteer support Seattle Goodwill wouldn’t have the resources to serve the 9,767 Job Training and Education students it did last year. A total of 780 volunteers committed 13,230 hours toward serving Goodwill’s mission of creating better economic opportunity for individuals facing significant barriers to employment.
National Volunteer Week takes place April 23-29, and Seattle Goodwill is thrilled to celebrate our volunteers’ dedication and desire to positively impacting our communities throughout the Puget Sound.
The generosity of time from people such as Gonzalo Panduro, who has donated more than 1,500 hours over the course of six years at Marysville’s Job Training and Education (JTE) center, is a prime example of the tremendous impact our volunteers make.
After immigrating to the U.S. from Mexico in 2011, Gonzalo began taking classes at Goodwill in order to develop skills that would help him land a job. Soon after enrolling he began volunteering in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes, acting as a teacher’s aide and a translator and interpreter for Spanish-speaking individuals.
Every Monday through Thursday Gonzalo volunteers for three hours. His positive attitude is infectious, and he takes great pride in helping the Hispanic community, in particular, gain access to better economic opportunity.
“I love helping,” Gonzalo said, “especially after I help them and they say, ‘Thank you.’ That is what motivates me.”
Seattle Goodwill has an abundance of volunteer opportunities for individuals looking to be a part of our mission across the north Puget Sound. Roles include tutoring at Job Training centers, providing department and administrative support, working special events, participating in corporate volunteer opportunities and much more.
