Goodwill breaks ground on our new building
February 16, 2012
Goodwill held a ground breaking for our new Goodwill Job Training and Education Center and Administrative Support Services building on February 15, 2012! The new building, which will be beside our Seattle store, at the corner of Rainier Avenue South and South Dearborn Street, should be completed by Spring 2013.
“This building will allow us to expand our capacity to serve more people with our free job training and education programs,” said Seattle Goodwill CFO Michael Jurich. “We are excited to bring our administrative support services back to the Dearborn campus and work together with our Job Training and Education staff under one roof.”
Goodwill has been working with its project team to guide sustainable design decisions. The building is designed to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver certification, in part through energy efficiency and water conservation. Sustainable features include a two-story-tall above-ground cistern that will capture water from the roof for use in the building. In addition, the narrow floor plate will facilitate the penetration of daylight into classrooms and office space, reducing the amount of energy used for lighting.
“I am excited that we will be able to offer our services and programs in a more dignified learning environment,“ adds Jurich. "The new facility will meet our long term needs and will be a beautiful and sustainable building.”

Goodwill Board member Scott Missall; Vice President of Job Training & Education b.g. Nabors-Glass; Mayor Mike McGinn; CEO & President Ken Colling; Green Corps member Michaela Lovelady; and Goodwill Board Chair Wayne Lau break ground on the new building in Seattle.

We're excited to be building a new Job Training and Education Center and Administrative Support Services building, located next to our Seattle store at the corner of Rainier Ave S and S Dearborn St.
Scheduled for completion in Spring 2013, the building will allow us to serve even more people in the community through our free job training and education programs.
