If you love the movies—or just like a good excuse for a party—mark your calendar for the Oscars on Sunday, February 22. Here are a few ways to add glam and sparkle to your Oscar Night festivities.

Dress Up
Embrace old school Hollywood glamour and dress up! Encourage your guests to thrift their outfits and hold a best-dressed vote, with prizes for the most outrageous, most classic, and more. Visit Goodwill for lots of clothing options. You’ll find suits and the occasional tuxedo. Choose an over-the-top formal dress—or pair a simple sheath dress with some striking jewelry. For more inspiration from Oscar winners of many eras, take a look at this fun overview of best actress dresses from 1929 to the present. Details magazine presents a men’s Oscar fashion overview, featuring leading men including Humphrey Bogart and Sydney Poitier.

Metallic tones are regularly used in the sets and decorations at the Academy Awards—so why not follow suit? Cover a wall in gold and silver balloons. It’s easy to decorate vases, punch bowls and champagne bottles with spray-on glue and glitter.

The Everyday Celebrating blog offers Oscar decorating ideas, including this one: Buy Ken dolls at Goodwill, then paint them with gold paint, and create your own mock Oscar awards, or top them with real or fake flowers for a humorous centerpiece. For another playful touch, attach bow ties to thrifted champagne flutes.

Food and drink
While you and your guests watch the stars stroll on the red carpet, serve delicious and color-coordinated cocktails/mocktails, made with in-season pomegranates.

Pick up some extra punchbowls from Goodwill and make a flavored popcorn bar. Prepare a delectable and portable treat by making tiramisu dessert shooters in shot glasses, as featured on the blog Sprinkle Bakes.

If you’re a true movie fanatic, tie in your food choices with the nominated films. One approach is Spoon University’s nine foods to eat at your Oscar Party—featuring pink funfetti cupcakes in honor of the rose-colored Grand Budapest Hotel.

You’ll enjoy the Oscar extravaganza even more with your own ballots or bingo. For game prizes, consider movie theater candy or DVDs of favorite movies, available from Goodwill.

Regardless of who wins and who loses, the Oscars transform a humdrum February Sunday into an anticipated, festive evening—and so will you, as you host a fabulous Oscar party!
