Glitter Sale 2012: Fresh Trends for Fall

As the days get shorter and the air gets crisper, it's clear that fall is creeping in on us. Although we're enjoying a wonderful Indian summer, it's time to start thinking about layers, thicker textures and of course, boots of all shapes & sizes! If you're anything like me, then you've been planning for the season since February, scouring the runways at New York, London, Milan and Paris fashion weeks for inspiration. If you're not, don't fret! I'm here to share with you my top trends for fall and winter. In no particular order:

  1. SkirtLeather: The go-to texture of the ultra-cool, leather is making waves this season like it never has before. A great leather jacket is a classic wardrobe essential that can last season after season. If you're not into a full leather jacket, leather detailing can be found on everything from pants and t-shirts to trench coats and military jackets.
  2. Military: Also a fall favorite, military-style pieces, or structured pieces in olive or tan, are perfect for Seattle incremental weather. Score a vintage camouflage jacket and make it your own with a little DIY - sew on some studs, custom patches or other embellishments.
  3. Lace: Lace is perfect for the romantic feminine and tough girl alike. Lace overlay is being seen on everything from dresses to shirts and pants, while lace detail softens up a structured blazer or trouser.
  4. Brocade: I'm a big fan of the baroque looks that are everywhere this fall. Brocade fabric in particular is making a big comeback. You'll see them most often on pants, but you can stand out in a thrifted brocade blazer or dress, like this Glitter Sale skirt with a great brocade accent at the top.
  5. Peplum: Carried over from spring, peplum-style tops are a mainstay for fall. I love that peplum tops flatter almost every kind of body type and make every lady feel so feminine. Look for them in tweed, brocade and lace overlay. A good cotton peplum top can add some surefire sassiness to your basic tee and jeans!
  6. Printed pants: Give your jeans a break this fall and strut your stuff in printed pants! Trousers of all shapes and sizes are a hit this fall. For the fashion-forward,try a harem pant in bold print or striking color. Pants or those who want to dip their toes in the trend, cigarette pants in a vibrant red or green also make a great statement. Try these Piazza Sempione 'Audrey' pants available at the Glitter Sale!
  7. Faux/vintage fur: Faux or vintage fur, especially in a vest or jacket, is a stylish way to stay warm and cozy this winter.
  8. Pointy stilettos: Stilettos are always a good choice, but pointy-toed heels are making another comeback. You can find an abundance of these at your Goodwill!
  9. Smoking slippers: If you're looking for a trendy flat this fall, look for the smoking slipper style (think Hugh Hefner but stylish!) in velvet jewel-tones.
  10. Boots: Boots make a splash in every possible way every fall. Whether it's a pair of rain slickers, ankle booties or riding boots, make sure you've got a pair or two in your closet to last you through the season.
