6 ways you can make an impact while you holiday shop

Once the turkey is cold, and the stuffing is gone—in the wee hours of the Friday following Thanksgiving, many retailers roll out the holiday cheer with no abandon and just like that—Santa is in town. As for Goodwill, we’ll be closed on Thanksgiving Day, but will open for regular hours on Black Friday. (We’re also holding off on the Christmas music in stores until then.)

There are many ways you can support Goodwill’s Job Training and Education Programs with your holiday shopping—which means the gifts and décor you purchase benefit the receiver as well as those served by our programs. Last year, we served over 8,700 individuals in our community!

Here are the ways you can support Seattle Goodwill with your holiday shopping:

BLACK FRIDAY
All stores (excluding outlets) will have 50% off all donated goods on Black Friday! We’ll be open normal hours. This is a great opportunity to stock up on décor and all the pieces you need for your Do-It-Yourself (DIY) holiday projects!

SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY
While 24 stores, 10 Job Training and Education Centers, and over 40 donation sites may not seem like a small business, Seattle Goodwill is locally owned and operated. Our headquarters are in Seattle’s International District—and each store is supported by its local community. When you shop and donate at Seattle Goodwill, you’re creating a bigger impact by supporting job training and education opportunities right here in our community! Swing by your favorite neighborhood store or donation site on Small Business Saturday! (And PS. If you donate at our Sammamish Highlands site on Saturdays and Sundays through the end of the year, you can enter to win a prize valued at $100!)

CYBER MONDAY
You can support Seattle Goodwill in three ways this Cyber Monday:

  • Give Back Box
    • Seattle Goodwill is participating in Give Back Box! When you shop online, save your boxes, pack your donations in them, and print out a Give Back Box label—and have your donation shipped directly to us—at no cost to you! Print your label here.
  • Amazon Smile
    • Head to smile.amazon.com to do your Amazon holiday shopping, and select Seattle Goodwill as your preferred charitable organization! Amazon donates .5% of each eligible purchase to the organization of your choice. To participate in Amazon Smile, you do need to be sure to start from the smile.amazon.com URL!
  • Shop Online
    • About 3% of all donations to Seattle Goodwill, like collectibles, some jewelry, electronics, and designer goods are sold online in our eBay, Amazon, and shopgoodwill.com stores. Find a unique gift!

GIVING TUESDAY
#GivingTuesday is a global day to celebrate giving—of all kinds! There are a few ways you can support Seattle Goodwill on Giving Tuesday—you can see the full list (and get reminders) by RSVPing to our Facebook event page. One big way we’d love your support is helping us get the word out about Giving Tuesday. You can donate a Tweet, Facebook post, or Tumblr post here: http://bit.ly/GivingTuesdaySGW

Happy holiday shopping—and thank you for supporting Goodwill!
