Halloween DIY: Prince

We lost an iconic music legend this year with the passing of Prince, but for all those who grew up listening to his music during the 1970s and 80s, here’s your opportunity to pay homage to the legend.

Odds are you won’t sell more than 100 million records, win seven Grammys or get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But for one night, you can have it all—or at least you can pretend.

So turn on and crank up your Purple Rain album and have fun transforming into Prince or the Artist Formerly Known As Prince or any one of the artist’s many pseudonyms. The makeup needed to pull of Prince isn’t too challenging, but you will need several accessories.

Here is a list of what you’ll need.

  • Black afro wig
  • White collared undershirt
  • Loud, colorful trench-coat type jacket
  • Bell-bottom pants
  • Dancing shoes
  • Makeup or face paint

Take your time with the face makeup. Prince is a larger-than-life icon, and getting the face right will help set off the rest of the costume. Watch the makeup video above for some tips.

And don't forget to enter our annual Costume Contest
