Are You Ready for Winter Weather?

Goodwill is participating in the Take Winter By Storm campaign to help our community get ready before winter storms strike!

Take these three steps to get ready:

  1. Create an emergency preparedness kit with at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food and water for your home and office.  Kits prepared for vehicle road travel and winter weather evacuation go-kits are also advised.  Many of these items are available for purchase at Goodwill stores.  Here are some of the important items for your portable emergency kit:
  • Non-perishable food (including infant formula and pet food, if appropriate)
  • Bottled water (several large containers)
  • Flashlight and extra batteries
  • Portable radio and cell phone charger (hand-cranked or battery operated)
  • First aid kit
  • Medications/prescriptions (for pets too)
  • Warm clothing and sturdy shoes
  • Blankets
  • Whistle
  • Snow shovel
  • Cash (since ATMs may not work)
  • Out-of-area contact information
  1. Make a plan and practice the plan with your family and those who depend on you.
  2. Stay informed and know the weather approaching so you are prepared.
