Our Mission at Work: Meet Liba

When Liba Meatchi came to Goodwill he was frustrated by not being able to find a good job to support his family.  Originally from Togo, he lived in Italy for over ten years playing professional basketball.  “I came to America because I wanted to give my daughter a better life,” Liba remembered.

After he arrived in Seattle he found his lack of English skills a barrier to finding a good job. After taking classes at Shoreline Goodwill to improve his English and job search skills, he was able to acquire a good job with the Seattle Public Schools at Highland Park Elementary.

“Goodwill is a good place,” Liba said. “It helped me to have everything I have now.”

This past year Seattle Goodwill assisted almost 6,300 students with free job training and education in our 10 community job training centers, helping 700 people facing barriers to employment find jobs.

Goodwill students come from diverse backgrounds.  Last year, our students represented 102 native languages and 113 countries of origin.

Watch Liba share his story, and then learn how you can help us make a difference in someone else's life by shopping or donating.
