Shopping Goodwill – My Favorite Finds

Always a bargain hunter by nature, I quickly established a love of Goodwill when I moved to Seattle six years ago.

Driving across the country, I brought along only what fit in the back of my VW Golf, which meant I needed to do some serious furniture shopping on the cheap when I arrived. At Goodwill I found not only great used furniture, but other assorted housewares as well. Plates, wine glasses, picture frames and vases all found their way to my apartment. Today, it’s safe to say that about a third of what I own came from Goodwill.

My thrift shopping has certainly evolved over time. For years I stuck to the large back section of our Dearborn store, intimidated by the racks upon racks of clothing in the front. A few trips to our newest store in South Lake Union made me realize that finding a fabulous used shirt or pair of earrings is just as fun as finding a gorgeous piece of glassware. These days I find myself sticking to books (the book section at Dearborn is better than any used book store I know) and clothing – I just don’t have room for any more thrifted furniture or housewares.

Of course, I still walk through most of the store when I go to Goodwill - after all, the thrill of the hunt is what makes thrift shopping irresistible. That fortunate feeling of finding an item I can’t believe is still on the shelf keeps me coming back for more.

Love the chair and the white jug!!! I am very new to thrifting... More so enjoy making donations that others can enjoy & put to better use. This week was my first purchase of a pair of earrings. I adore them!
