Carol, having obtained a degree in social communications and an MBA, was working in her home country of Brazil for a TV programming company in its new media department when her life underwent a drastic change.
Her husband received a job offer from Amazon, and so Carol moved with him to Seattle just over a year ago. Like Amruta, Carol had to wait for her work permit upon moving. She decided to volunteer to keep her skills sharp and found an open position on Seattle Goodwill’s philanthropy team.
“Even though I had a great career back in Brazil, I’ve always felt like something was lacking in terms of self-fulfillment,” Carol said. “When you work for a place like Goodwill, everything kind of fits, you know. It’s something that, maybe this was meant to be.”
Carol completes various critical projects, including compiling and reporting on volunteer hours, data input and analysis and updating the volunteer exit survey.
“I feel so appreciated here,” Carol said. “I feel like they like me more than my family does sometimes, so it’s really fulfilling to be at a place that has such a noble mission with such great people behind it.”
