Tatyana

Joyce success story

Tatyana's journey to a career in nursing began at Goodwill. In 2000, she left Tajikistan with her family and settled in Bellingham. She initially found work but couldn't find a better job because she spoke little English. She came to Goodwill for free English language classes, but also for computer and career skills that would help her advance in the workforce.

"Goodwill was so important, because it was my first step to improving my English. Back then, Goodwill was one of the few places where I could get help. I learned a lot of things that helped me be successful later in life," Tatyana said.

The skills Tatyana learned at Goodwill helped her complete a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program. She then entered a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program and now works as an LPN at an assisted living center. Goodwill also recently honored her success with an Outstanding Achievement Award.

"Tatyana exemplifies what hard work and persistence can accomplish." Instructor Bob Baxter said.
