Summer Youth Training and Outdoor Skills Building Program

The Youth Program ended on Aug. 28 and no more entries about Kimberly, Kevin, Ikram, Jordan and Taylor will be posted. Thank you for following their progress, and look for a similar effort during next summer's program.

Program Description:

In partnership with Center for Career Alternatives (CCA) and Seattle Parks and Recreation, Goodwill hosted 40 students for the Summer Youth Training and Outdoor Skills Building Program.

From July 6 through Aug. 28, at-risk teens ages 15 to 18 spent mornings at Goodwill and learned retail and customer service skills that will help them get jobs; conflict resolution skills; diversity and cultural competence training; and leadership development.

In the afternoons, Seattle Parks and Recreation taught the teens about environmental stewardship and care of open spaces; by working on projects such as trail restoration, they also earned service learning hours needed for graduation from high school. CCA will provided case management support to help participants work through problems that may limit their chance of success in the future.
