Glitter Gala & Glitter Sale raise $853,000

November 16, 2017

In a whirlwind span of eight days that included our annual Glitter Gala and 34th Annual Glitter Sale, we raised an incredible $853,000 for our free Job Training and Education Programs.

More than 600 guests attended our Goodwill Glitter Gala and Fashion Show on November 4 at Hangar 30 in Magnusson Park. Our community of supporters helped us raise over $520,000 for Goodwill’s critical support services, which are essential to the holistic, wrap-around approach we take to increase student success.

A cocktail hour preceded our main program, which included a live auction, mission information, moving student stories, an unforgettable runway show and after party dancing.

A week later — November 11-12 — we held our annual Glitter Sale, a two-day celebration of everything that sparkles and shines. For months, we put aside some of the designer, vintage and unique pieces we received through donations and put it all out at Seattle Dearborn’s special sales floor.

More than 600 shoppers, some camping overnight, formed a lined that stretched along Goodwill’s building and out toward Dearborn Street so they could be the first ones into the sale. Aaron Umipig, who lives in Seattle and arrived the day before the sale at 10 a.m., was first in line.

Thanks to our wonderful volunteers, hard-working employees and community support, more than 2,500 people bought $330,000 worth of eveningwear, shoes, purses, jewelry and accessories. All proceeds from the sale will support our free Job Training and Education Programs for low-income and underserved people in our community.

“We really want to thank the community for supporting both the sale and gala and making them such a huge success,” said Goodwill President & CEO Daryl Campbell. “The proceeds we raised will allow Goodwill to help more people in our community get jobs. Last year Seattle Goodwill served over 11,500 individuals.”
