12 Days of Holiday Blogs: Warm up with these holiday drink recipes
A hot dog at a baseball game, popcorn at a movie, peanut butter and jelly, the holiday season and a cup of hot cocoa in your favorite holiday mug — some things were just meant to go together.
When you visit Goodwill this holiday season, make sure to find a special holiday mug to hold all those tasty seasonal drinks. With so many options, you’re sure to find something unique to use while you’re curled up in front of the fire trying to escape the cold.
And if you’re looking for a new holiday drink recipe to warm you up, check out the ideas below that will perfectly offset the winter freeze.
Cinnamon Hot Chocolate Mix (from tasteofhome.com)
-1-3/4 cups nonfat dry milk powder
-1 cup confectioners’ sugar
-1/2 cup powdered nondairy creamer
-1/2 cup baking cocoa
-1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
-1 cup miniature marshmallows
-3/4 cup hot milk
- In a large bowl, combine the milk powder, sugar, creamer, cocoa and cinnamon. Add the marshmallows; mix well. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to 3 months
- To prepare 1 serving: Dissolve 3 tablespoons hot chocolate mix in hot milk.
Spiced Apple Cider (from Litehouse Foods)
-1 gallon Litehouse Gala Apple Cider
-1 tablespoon whole allspice
-1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
-4 cloves whole cloves
-3 cinnamon sticks
-1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise
- Combine cider, allspice, nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon sticks in a large pot. Scrape in seeds from vanilla bean and add bean. Bring spiced cider just to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook just below a simmer until flavors meld, about 1 hour.
- Strain cider through a sieve into another pot or heatproof punch bowl; discard solids in sieve. Ladle hot spiced cider into cups.
